Created in the 19th century on the grounds of a former farm, this pastoral cemetery was designed to take advantage of the land's natural undulations and picturesque features. Today, it's a lovely, landscaped area with a serene ambience. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it's the site of many graves of well-known locals, including those of General George Rogers Clark, Harland Sanders of KFC fame, journalist Henry Watterson, and James Guthrie. Established in 1848.

This "French Renaissance" building was completed in 1873 and has a clock tower and sculptures of horses, pigs and cows on the façade.

Beautiful cast iron detailing is one of the reasons this district is so impressive. Tourist attractions like the Louisville Slugger Museum and the Louisville Science Center can be found in the area, which is also home to the Fort Nelson site, built in 1782. Many of the buildings have been renovated into apartments and upscale shops. Tours of Main Street are offered Monday through Friday from 11am to 3pm by the Main Street Association.
